Middle School needs more Judges

Please spread the word the Intel NWSE Middle School fair needs judges for Physics: Mechanical, Energy & Transportation, Engineering, and Consumer Product Testing. The fair is March 22nd and the time commitment for judges is 7:45am-1:30pm. Undergraduates and advanced high school students are welcome as judges. Register online at www.affiliatedfairs.org

Here are some quick links to Schedules, display regulations, and a PSU Campus map. For directions to Portland State University the campus map has links for mass transit and driving. Parking Structure 3 has the most metered spots available for visitors.

February 20th Deadline for CWOSE, GBSE, and PPSSE

This Wednesday is the online registration and paperwork deadline for three regional fairs. The mailing address for all fairs is NWSES; 18624 NW Walker Rd; Beaverton OR 97006.

Updated Judging Criteria from Intel ISEF

Please review the new Intel ISEF Judging Guidelines they will be used by most NWSES fairs this year. The older criteria is listed for middle school use.

Oregon Junior Science & Humanities Symposium

The 2013 Oregon Junior Science & Humanities Symposium will be held with the support of the University of Oregon on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Oregon Episcopal School. The Symposium is open to all Oregon Students in Grades 9-12 in public, private or home schools who have completed original research in the areas of science, engineering, computer sciences and mathematics.

High School Natural Science Inquiry 4 credit course

In conjunction with Portland State University's Center for Science Education and the Intel STEM Center we will be offering a 4 credit course for high school Juniors and Seniors for completing a research project and paper. Please carefully read the following attachments. These credits are offered at a discounted $226 plus a $25 registration fee. The deadline for pre-registering for the class is November 28th.

Gresham Barlow Science Expo Date Change

The fair will be Saturday March 2, 2013. The Gresham Barlow Science Expo is the at-large fair for Oregon.

2013 Intel NWSE Schedules have been posted

The schedules for the 2013 Intel Northwest Science Expo middle and high school fairs have been updated. Set-up of projects will be available both the evening before and the morning of for each fair. Award Ceremonies have also been moved up, making a shorter day for everyone.

Applied Superconductivity Conference's Outreach Day

The Applied Superconductivity Conference's Outreach Day is October 10th 2012.  Information is available at www.ascinc.org/outreach.

Note that admission is free but a badge must be picked up at the registration desk.

For the demos they will have 20 tables set up with exhibits from Mad Science, OMSI, and by Applied Superconductivity (of superconducting cables, mag lev devices) and Hitachi is bringing in an SEM.  In addition there will be conducted tours of the exhibits for participants.
