Intel NWSE Fair Day Info

Middle school project set-up is Monday morning May 1, 2017. The student does not need to be present; a parent or teacher may complete the set-up for them. All project forms must brought to set-up. 2017 will be in the Smith Memorial Student Union at PSU.

High school student set-up will be offered the evening of April 7, 2017 or the morning of April 8, 2017. The student must be present to complete display and safety check. All of the project's ISEF forms are required for set-up.

Students are required to attend the Awards Ceremony; students not attending the Awards Ceremony forfeit any awards they might have won.

You can get driving directions to the Portland State Campus Parking Structure 3 from Google maps. We have a map with locations of local fast food establishments and important places near PSU. New resturants seem to open daily.

2017 Intel NWSE Middle School Student Schedule

All events take place at Portland State University in the Smith Memorial Student Union. For safety and security reasons, students are required to wear name tags at all Intel NWSE events.

 

Monday, May 1, 2017
8:00 - 10:00am:
Exhibit setup and Safety Check at PSU. All Posters must be set-up during this time and all forms need to be present. The student does NOT need to be present. Safety Checkers will assist in set-up and approve displays. After an exhibit is approved, it will receive a Safety Check approved sticker to place on the exhibit placard. Please leave the exhibit hall when finished with Safety Check. Judges will start reviewing projects at 9:30am, so please set-up as early as possible. It is highly recommended that an adult bring all the posters for a school in the morning, students do not need to be present until noon.

10:00am -noon: Free time & lunch on your own.  Nametags will be at student exhibits. 

12:10 - 2:30pm: Students interviewed by judges at their exhibits. Students must be at their exhibit during the whole judging time. No food or sound-producing electronics, including cell phones, may be used during judging. Bottled water will be allowed for student consumption. No Parents or Adult Sponsors are allowed in the exhibit hall during judging. We recommend bringing a book to read between judge interviews.

2:30 - 4:00pm: Free time. 

4:00 - 6:00pm: Middle School Exhibits open to the public. Students should be at their projects. Please note there are multiple exhibit halls. A travelling award ceremony will be delivering ribbons to students who win a category award. Winner lists will also be posted.

5:15 - 5:45pm: Middle School Special Award Ceremony in Ballroom. Students with exhibits in the ballroom will be asked to lower posters, students whose names are listed on the Special Award winner list need to enter the Ballroom and come to the stage when he/she is announced.

6:00pm: Clean-up. Posters need to be removed by 6:15pm. Assistance cleaning up paper appreciated.

12:50 - 1:50pm: Second round of interviews, categories with small numbers of projects may be visited by judges from other categories. For large categoies this is a continuation of the earlier judge session. Students are encouraged to talk to other students about their proejcts during this time.

2:00 - 3:15pm: Exhibits open to the public in Smith Center. Students are required to be at their projects. Even numbers to be at their poster from 2:00-2:30, Odd numbers from 2:35-3:05. The rest of the time can be used to view other projects.

3:00pm: Announcement of HS "Best of Fair" candidates. Most award decisions are made before finalist judging; more than 200 awards will be given at the award ceremony.

3:15 - 4:45pm: Best of Fair candidates interviewed

4:45 - 5:15pm: Exhibits open to public. Students are welcome to return to their exhibits and talk to the public before the award ceremony.

5:15 - 6:00pm: Students remove projects. All projects need to be removed or they will be discarded. You can leave posters in the lobby of Hoffman Hall.

6:15 - 7:45pm: Award Ceremony at Hoffman Hall. Students must be present to receive awards.

7:45 - 8:15pm: Team Oregon information meeting for all Intel ISEF finalists.
